Pagestream
by Chris Wheeler
For the benefit of PlaNet people involved in writing/journalism/publishing
who don't want to buy a Mac system, don't like being confined
to
Microsoft-compatible desktop publishing products on a PC, and
would like
to convert totally to Linux but are holding back because of
the absence of
a good DTP program available in Linux, the good news (which
may be old
news to some!) is that what sounds like a very good DTP program
in
Linux-mode called Pagestream, is available as a CD or direct
online from
www.grasshopperllc.com
$US 99 for the ordinary version or $US149 for the
Professional version with extras.
Compare that with QuarkXpress at over $4000, Pagemaker 7 at
near $1000 and
InDesign at over $2000, plus all the bullshit involved in being
hooked
into DTP programs that regularly hit you up for multi-hundred
dollar
upgrades and it's no contest. Pagestream offers all the features
necessary
for sophisticated publishing plus many that Pagemaker and Quark
lack and
like the Pegasus email program produced by Otago's David Harris,
is looked
after by someone who obviously cares about the spirit of the
Internet,
Deron Kazmaier.
