New
Zealand Joins The War Criminals
Global Peace and Justice Auckland is appalled at the government
decision to
commit New Zealand troops to the occupation of Iraq.
These troops will become part of the occupying forces in Iraq
and this
deployment makes a mockery of Labour's previous opposition to
the US/UK
invasion which was both illegal and immoral.
Labour's stance up to now has at least had some moral credibility
but this
has evaporated in a puff of cringing subservience. Our troops
will become
the target of Iraqi resistance fighters just as the German soldiers
occupying France in the 1940's became the legitimate targets
of the French
resistance.
Unbelievably, this NZ government decision comes at a time when
the US and
UK government's have been exposed as lying to their people to
justify the
invasion of Iraq.
GPJA calls on Helen Clark to rescind this decision and instead
provide more
humanitarian assistance through credible non-governmental organisations.
