Rodney receives 'organic friendly' tag
Rodney
has been declared 'organic friendly' and is the first district
in New Zealand to do so, claims Mayor John Law. The decision
was made at a recent meeting of the council's environment committee
and was approved unanimously, he says. "By becoming organic
friendly, it shows that Rodney realises the importance of the
environment and is also prepared to embrace a different point
of view, " Mr Law contends.

On
the contrary, organised farming supports the move because of
the potential for future success it holds, including job creation
and tourism. Other options include an organic trail taking in
arts, crafts, vineyards and Rodney's other attractions, Mr Law
says. Mr Law stresses the declaration has nothing to do with
the more controversial GE. The royal commission's report will
first have to be studied in depth before a decision is made
on that subject, he says. ..
