GE-Release Bill On Table

The `GE-Release Bill of Labour Party backing is back in parliament within
days.

The bill allows commercial release in NZ from October 2003. If you oppose
the release of GE organisms into the environment it would be timely to send
a message of protest now. Following is a suggested letter, plus email
addresses of key MP's if you want to email the letter to them.

If possible send a hard copy by printing and posting to all/any of the
MP's, see list below. "Freepost" Parliament Buildings, Wellington.

This is a sample letter: insert the name of the MP and add your name and
contact details.

Dear

APRIL 2002

Don't let GE contamination destroy the right to eat GE-Free food. The
threat of the uncontrollable spread of GE has been proved. On 18 April 2002
the Mexican government announced massive contamination of native corn
has occurred. (see www.guardian.co.uk/gmdebate).

I ask that you to vote against allowing GE releases to be approved from
October 2003 and amend this clause in the HSNO legislation currently before
parliament.

To support an international 5-year moratorium on GE releases as called for
by the Physicians and Scientists for Responsible Genetics (PSRG)

To oppose any moves by industry that will destroy supplies of GE-Free food
and force acceptance of "a bit" of GE , even in organic food.

Please confirm in writing that you will do this to protect our basic rights
to choose, the economy, and our environment from what has already been
found in Mexico.

Yours sincerely,
