The September 2 GPJA forum will have two topics - Fighting Poverty in
NZand Organising against the coming war on Iraq.

Susan St John from the Child Poverty Action Group will be the featured
speaker for the first half of the September forum. Susan is a senior
economist in the economics department of Auckland University. The CPAG

Action is happening elsewhere in NZ and Peace Movement Aotearoa is
circulating a national petition supported by GPJA calling for "No NZ

David Robie, Pacific journalist and senior lecturer in communication
studies at AUT will be speaking at our October 7 forum on "Is democracy a

UNITY,PEACE and PRAYER - SOLIDARITY MARCH FOR PEACE. A coalition of Islamic
groups have called for a National Day of Unity, Peace and Prayer to
coincide with the anniversary of last year's attacks on the World Trade
Centre and Pentagon. They ask all faith communities to participate by
opening houses of worship on September 11th for interfaith visits, prayers
for peace and other activities which foster national unity and tolerance.
The remembrance will begin in Auckland with a solidarity march for peace

"Globalisation, Women Workers and the Struggle for Justice" national

activist groups such as peace and justice, Te Tiriti, women's liberation,
anti corporate globalisation or GE FREE Aotearoa. We invite groups to send
a person who is a good networker, plays a facilitator role and understands
both coalitions and the central values of your group. A fundamentalist view
of struggle or methods is not relevant. Enrol early as numbers are limited

SEPTEMBER 2-8 WIPE OUT POVERTY WEEK FOR YOUTH
Soak up the challenge! Wipe Out Poverty Week - Christian World Service
(CWS) has launched an exciting new youth initiative with the first ever
Wipe Out Poverty Week; a fun filled week of water, washing, cleaning and
shining - all to aid projects supported by CWS and get youth groups,
schools and young New Zealanders involved in the fight against global
poverty and injustice. Young people will be sponsored or collect donations
for the cleaning they do; the only limit is kiwi kids imagination. For more
