Antiwar 22 March Auckland

ANTIWAR MARCH FROM QUEEN ELIZABETH SQUARE, ASSEMBLE 12-NOON, MARCH 22

The countdown to war has started. Bush and Blair have imposed a march 17
deadline for Iraq. The arms twisting, bribery and threats continue at the
United Nations Security Council. But whatever the result The US and British
governments are determined on war. Massive mobilisations across the globe
have created obstacles for the war planners and further protest can help
raise the political price of their imperial designs.

The justification for war keeps changing as their lies get exposed. The
latest inspectors reports revealed that claims By Bush and Blair that Iraq
had tried to purchase uranium were based on forged documents and the
aluminium tubes were for regular artillery as Iraq claimed. The US and
Britain now emphasise the need for "regime change" because of Iraq's human
right record when both governments had been arming and financing the Iraqi
regime during the 1980s when the worst abuses occurred. But the world knows
this is a war for oil and the planned military occupation of Iraq will be
serving the US/British oil companies in the first instance. The long-term
occupation of Iraq with the military bases that will inevitably follow will
become the platform for dominating and region with 65% of world's known oil
reserves. It will also be the source of new wars to defend the empire.

A recent picture in the NZ Navy magazine confirmed what the peace movement
has been saying for weeks - that the NZ frigate on duty in the gulf was
providing assistance to the US war effort by escorting US warships through
the Gulf as they deliver their deadly supplies. At this critical moment in
world history when mass murder is being organised before our eyes the NZ
government should condemn the war plans and withdraw the frigate and any
other NZ military forces from the Gulf.

MAKE MARCH 22 A DAY WHEN THOUSANDS SAY NO MORE WARS, NO NZ INVOLVEMENT,
BRING THE FRIGATE HOME
