| On The Street For Week 24 Oct Posted
                  23th Oct 2001
27 OCT:- DEMONSTRATION for World Dairy
                  Conference

 Aotea Square 12 NOON

"A COSTUMED STREET THEATRE, kind of a DEMO" What is planned
                  at the moment
is that we have the usual sort of demo, (placards, banners etc)
                  but with
the additional element of costumes, and an element of street
                  theatre, which
will be adlib to a large/some extent. Since no site booked this
                  will be a
street type demo, with no particular fixed location.

This is important that we be at the Dairy board conference,
                  even though
there is a lot going on every day now, as the crunch time comes
                  ever
nearer. Fonterra, (now what the Dairy board trades as), is pushing
                  GE
vigorously, and even making what are, (when you strip away the
                  spin),
 anti-democratic threats.

Essentially as here, paraphrased, but thus: "If the government
                  doesn't
allow GE, then we will take our research (and the money) overseas,
                  and do
it anyway. "It doesn't matter what the majority of people think
                  or want,
the Government must decide on the basis of pro-science, and
                  pro-business."

The dairy board delegates need to be told that:- THERE IS NO
                  MARKET FOR GE
FOOD! so why do research? If they go GE, no one will buy there
                  stuff. No
one wants to eat it, given a free informed (eg, labelled) choice.
Suggestions for placards/banners "THERE IS NO MARKET FOR GE
                  FOOD so what's
the point in research?" "GE = huge unknown risk = No insurance
                  available"

If you have something that may be useful, but are not taking
                  part, please
ring, or e-mail to or bring to the Tues Workshop, or the Wed
                  meeting. Bill

THE ANTI-WAR COALITION The anti-war coalition is a gathering
                  together of
groups and individuals from many varied backgrounds, political
                  philosophies
and religious beliefs who hold the common view that the US-led
                  military
campaign against Afghanistan and anyone else is wrong and should
                  stop.

The platforms of the AWC are:

 • STOP US - led WAR - The "war against terrorism" is terrorism
                  and
retribution. This is no solution. Ordinary civilians and workers
                  will be
the ones to pay the ultimate price.

 • STOP NZ TROOPS - That New Zealand take no part in US/UN-led
                  military
 actions either actively or passively.

 • STOP RACIAL ATTACKS - That there be no scapegoating of ethnic
                  or
 religious groups.

 • STOP ECONOMIC SANCTIONS - These only punish or kill civilians
                  and
workers in the countries where they are imposed.
