AirNZ Flies Alone
by Alan Marston

Ansett Australia. Another sorry tale of corporate business behaviour squashing people's lives into a winner take all frame, where few of us fit. We are not amused. The concept of due diligence and approval of Australian and New Zealand Governments and regulatory authorities is just that, a concept, and not a reality.

Who cares about the details of the machinations. Who wins who loses. We all lose, even the winners lose - respect.

Joe and Joan Blow: Lose. Airline choices reduced, airline stability reduced, airline expenditure on safety and service reduced

Employees of airlines: Loss of jobs, increased stress, pay cuts.

People's defender, government: Lose street cred. Presented with Hobson's choice. Having sold off state assets in the past, the crows of free enterprise fly back to the eagle for help the minute they see their own shadow.

Economy: Losses, billions of dollars of hard earned kiwi dollars paid in ticket prices is wiped out.

Acting Chairman of AirNZ, Jim Farmer said New Zealand would continue to have a national carrier. I disagree, we have a national disgrace. AirNZ major shareholders Brierley Investments and Singapore Airlines have sacrificed AirNZ at the altar of their own profits.

Time to take the toys from the boys. Get nationally critical assets back into the hands of nationally accountable agency, the state service.Time to take the toys from the boys. Get nationally critical assets back into the hands of nationally accountable agency, the state service.. ....
