MADENZ
In Magazine
by Stephen Tindall-the woman
The profile of "Stephen Tindall-the
woman", is within the latest edition of "North & South"
- out in bookstores now. The profile, I believe, is balanced.
The writer was slightly dismissive of
MADENZ, however I am not deterred. MADENZ will
come to its fore next year. The past few months has been a time
of laying
down the foundations and establishing a profile. I believe this
has been
achieved effectively, particularly under such circumstances
as are
outlined to you below. I welcome your comments to the profile
and I also
welcome dialogue from MADENZ supporters in regard to
planning for the future.
I am pleased that "North & South"honoured my request to
publish the
"The Warehouse Ltd / Stephen Tindall-the importer / NZ Herald
connection. I have known for some time that Mr Stephen Tindalls
wifes brother (ie his
brother-in-law) is editor of the "NZ Herald." I have
also been aware for some time that the "NZ Herald" seems
reluctant to print the word "import" and the word "substitution",
side
by side on the same line I am also accutely aware that the NZ
Heraldhas given a
lot of their newspaper space to promote Mr Stephen Tindall -
the
importer, as "Mr Sustainable NZ".
Nobody - not even 1000 promotional articles by the NZ Herald,
will EVER be able to convince Stephen Tindall - the woman, that
the mass importation of goods can be reconciled with a sustainable
New Zealand. I have also more recently become concerned that
the "NZ Herald" has been blacklisting me, and because of that
- it has been difficult for me during the past month, to "sit"
on what has come to light.
For those of you who may think that I am being somewhat "compulsive"
in regard to The Warehouse Ltd - please let me explain the hard
facts.
* NZs largest trade deficit is now with China. ($ 1.2 billion
deficit in 2001)
* One NZ company accounts for 43% of all NZs imports from China.
This company is called "The Warehouse Ltd".
* Chinese sweatshop factories breach ILO rules.
* China imposes 40+% tariffs on most NZ products.
(The TWL reference above is based upon trade statistics and
TWLs annual report and my best estimates. The Warehouse Ltd
has refused to disclose to me the exact amount they spend on
imports per annum, however I would be prepared to correct this
figure should TWL produce audited figures to support a dispute
of my conclusions)
I also recently witnessed Mr Stephen Tindall - the importer,
emphatically preaching on television that "all New Zealanders
must think EXPORT in everything they do".(Knowledge Basket programme).
This appears to be an interesting piece of Orwellian double
speak, considering that the man giving this advice has made
his millions by IMPORTING the cheapest junk on the planet, into
this country.
It would appear to me, that Mr Stephen Tindall - the importer
- has gained great comfort and boldness in knowing that his
word will not be questioned particularly by the largest distribution
daily newspaper in New Zealand. Throughout this letter I have
identified Mr Tindall - founder of The Warehouse Ltd - as "the
importer". I have done this because it has come to pass that
another Mr Stephen Tindall has surfaced - as reported in the
"Sunday Star Times"this weekendThis "Stephen Tindall" is a chef
from Napier, who has publicly expressed concern regarding the
damage that large chainstores wreak upon small retailers and
town communities. Unlike myself, he was given the name "Stephen
Tindall", at birth.
