                  Over Climate

Greenpeace NZ has joined with Greenpeace offices world-wide
and many other groups, organisations and governments in a global
campaign to pressure Exxon-Mobil corporation, known in NZ as
Mobil Oil NZ, to work with the rest of the world to save the
climate. GP have activated a web site for this campaign www.StopMobil.net On this site is information
about Mobil and their role undermining international efforts
to prevent dangerous climate change (also known as global warming).
Also on the site you can download a climate campaign kit which
includes campaign information, posters and stickers.

Here's just a couple of the reasons why Mobil is being targeted.

                1.
Mobil gave $US1,086,080 to George Bush's Republicans last year
                  - more than any other oil company. 91% of their political donations
went to the Republicans. As soon as Bush became president, the
US pulled out of an international agreement to stop global warming
                  - exactly the policy that Mobil were promoting.

                  2. Mobil were part of an industrial lobby group that ran an
advertising campaign in the US press condemning the Kyoto Protocol,
the only international agreement to stop catastrophic global
warming and lobbied Bush to pull out of the Kyoto Protocol.
Mobil also fund multi-million dollar propaganda fronts to dismiss
the case for action to protect the climate.
                3.
Despite being the biggest energy company in the world, they
refuse to invest in clean, green energy and instead spend all
their money on dirty oil and gas. Even Shell and BP will invest
$500 million each over the next three years in green energy
                  projects.
                Mobil
in New Zealand - Mobil NZ last year paid over $NZ130 000 000
to their parent company in the States. Their NZ customers are
unwittingly contributing to Exxon-Mobil's pro-active attack
on the climate. Greenpeace are calling on Mobil NZ to tell ExxonMobil:
that New Zealanders don't want to fund George Bush and global
warming to stop undermining the Kyoto Protocol to start investing
in renewable energy such as wind and solar power. .
