Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation

According to its vision statement, APEC seeks to achieve stability, security & prosperity for its member nations. The emphasis however has been on establishing a highly competitive free market that benefits multi-national corporate interests and is manipulated by financial speculators and government officials in the pursuit of personal and group monetary bottom lines at the expense of social and environmental sustainability.

APEC, if it was ever of benefit to all but a financial and bureaucratic elite, has long since lost its way. Asian and Pacific co-operation needs to incorporate human rights and ecological integrity while recognising & supporting the need for regional economies & communities. The global economy, like the `hidden hand' is put up as an unquestionable assumption which is rock solid and stable enought to support the lives of the whole planet. There is another PlaNet, it experiences a global diseconomy with the vast majority of people feeling the impact of a `hidden foot'. Lets get the foot out where we can see it.

The `Other APEC' shown here on pl.netTV gives you the opportunity of hearing the many sides of opinion that aren't visible in the trad media. People who critique APEC's misguided direction and impact and develop positive models for people and earth-centered development.
